Erin Dale
Interim Illicit Tobacco and E-cigarette Commissioner
Combating illicit tobacco and e‑cigarette trade is a shared responsibility. I call on all stakeholders to join us in this vital effort to protect public health, uphold the law, and create a safer community for all Australians.
Erin Dale brings over 25 years of experience in both the public and private sectors, working at local, national and international levels. She is a senior leader known for leading high‑risk and complex operational, strategic and policy challenges. Throughout her career in law enforcement, Erin has delivered successful outcomes by focusing on collaboration, careful analysis and evidence‑based solutions.
During her time at the Australian Border Force (ABF), Erin held several senior executive roles. Most recently, she was responsible for national and regional operations at Australian ports, overseeing travel, trade and enforcement activities. Erin led efforts to modernise customs and border policies, implement new risk‑based compliance systems and improve ABF's operational capabilities.
Her leadership was crucial during the COVID‑19 pandemic, where she led the closure and safe reopening of Australia's borders. Erin worked closely with law enforcement, health agencies, state governments and industry leaders to implement effective measures, including suspending and resuming cruise ships, enforcing quarantine rules and making international agreements to ensure public health and national security.
As the leader of the Commonwealth's Low Value Reform Taskforce, Erin played a key role in reviewing the GST threshold for low‑value imports, working closely with industry and achieving a major government goal. Internationally, Erin has provided significant contribution to law enforcement policies with the World Customs Organisation and important World Trade Organisation missions.
